Parkes Shire Council is accepting applications for this year’s Cultural Grants Programme.
Application forms are available on request from Parkes Shire Council.
Funding of up to $1000 is available to community groups on a dollar for dollar basis.
Council has a funding pool of $7000 for 2008/09 available to groups and organizations for the promotion of cultural activities.
The programme has been running for the last three years with council’s aim to encourage and support the development of local community organizations, services and strategies which meet identified cultural needs of the citizens of Parkes.
Under the programme, grants are available to local not-for-profit community groups and community arts organisations.
All grant requests to council will be considered by the Parkes Shire Cultural Committee and recommended for approval at council’s September 2008 meeting.
There are four main objectives of the programme. They include:
* To stimulate community activity in meeting the needs of local residents.
* Encourage creative and innovative approaches to cultural and community activity.
* Assist in the development of performance related skills.
* Enhance and promote cultural facilities and community awareness of the importance of culture.
Any application for funding must be able to demonstrate that it meets at least one of these objectives.
All organizations applying for funds should be based within the boundaries of the Shire of Parkes and principally serve Parkes Shire residents.
Evidence must also be provided showing that the organization is community-based and not conducted for private gain.
Applications must address local community needs and if successful expend those funds on the project as outlined.
