Suggestion for a big Elvis street party

Suggestion for a big Elvis street party

14/05/2008 8:10:00 AM
Some marvellous suggestions - planned on taking the Elvis Festival to yet further heights - are expected to be raised at a special meeting tomorrow evening.

Among the suggestions are believed to be closing off the main street for one big street party and a ‘reward system’ for support of local businesses.

The meeting will be held at the Parkes Leagues Club at 6pm for a 6.30pm start.

Secretary of the Elvis Festival Committee, Jeanette Barber said yesterday it was hoped there would be plenty of input at the meeting from the community at large.

‘We would like to see as many people as possible come along.

‘We have put the meeting on at that time so people can come along after work, get some nibblies which we will provide and then come into the meeting which will be very quick.

‘We have had some wonderful suggestions put forward.

‘One is to close off the main street and have a party on the Friday night, when visitors are arriving in town.

‘It is quite warm and it will be a wonderful atmosphere in the street for families to sit back and enjoy some music.

‘We hope to have people come along and tell us just what can and can’t be done in this regard.’

Jeanette also said there was an idea to have a ‘passport’ for people to get stamped at different locations, and then go into a draw for prizes.

‘There are some great ideas which we would like everyone to comment on.

‘We will also have a power-point presentation which I am sure people will find interesting.
