Parkes Colts went down to Cowra 29-26 in a game in which the Boars had to chase an impressive Cowra outfit.
The opening stanza of play saw the Boars defending in their own half.
Although Cowra peppered the tryline, strong defence from James O'Donnell and Geoff Westcott kept the opposition backline out.
However with a few mistakes and a lack of finding touch for relieving yards, the Cowra forwards in the form of their No.8 crashed over for the Eagles’ first try.
Within minutes of the first try, the Cowra backline spread the ball wide which saw the winger cross for their second try.
This try was converted taking the score to 12-0 in favour of Cowra.
With some better play, the Parkes forwards set a strong platform for the prodigal son Joel Armstrong to scoot through the Cowra defence and outsprint the fullback over 70 metres to score under the posts.
This try was converted by Dan Ryan taking the score to 12-7.
Cowra was soon to reply however as Parkes gave away a couple of crucial penalties with the result being another Cowra try.
Cowra’s fly half pushed off three defenders to score under the posts taking Cowra's lead to 24-7.
In the second half Parkes returned to the paddock aggressively to take it to Cowra.
Will Andrews was a little too fired up after getting kicked in the head, earning himself five minutes in the sinbin.
Once again, Cowra cashed in and scored in the corner taking the score to 29-7.
However, Parkes stormed back into the match.
Nick Westcott took the ball to the line and popped off for another returning expat Nathan Wills to dive over for the Boars second try.
Parkes found themselves on their own line again defending, however poor passing by Cowra was pounced on by a newly returned Will Andrews who ran another 70 metres to score, again to close the gap to 29-21.
A scrum win saw the ball passed wide for Michael Ehsman to score taking the final score to Cowra 29 Parkes 26.
After the game Coach Trevor Whittaker summed up his boys game by stating ‘We let Cowra get too big a lead with some poor defence and when we started to play hard we had run out of time.’
Points: Joel Armstrong (3); William Andrews (2); James O'Donnell (1); Joel Armstrong players player.
