Leaguies perform well in Orange

Twenty-one brave souls ventured to Orange on June 22 for the return match of the 4BBB Rogues Cup.

Orange only had 15 players so we had an advantage from the start.

Parkes won with an average of 43.2 points and Orange Ex Services had 42.25 points.

Garry Clarke kindly moved over to make up the numbers for Orange and came in with the support of Ray Jones to win for their team with 46 points.

Second place went to Bob Jenkins and Bill Roach with 44 points on a count back.

Parkes winners were Kim Sheridan and Robert Rea with 49 points on a count back.

Parkes winners were Kim Sheridan and Robert Rea with 49 points and Kevin Bennett teamed up with Allen Affleck to score 46 points on a count back.

Nearest the pins went to Sue Smith on the 8th while Ian Phipps won the 4th for A grade and Kevin Bennett the B grade.

Lucky card draws were Ian Phipps with Darren Yeo, Sue and Ross Smith and Brian Hogan partnered by Reg Davison for Parkes.

Orange had Brian Marsh and John Coughlan, Wally Hennessy and Alby Ryan and third out of the hat were Steve Cassell and Les Simmonds.

Next Sunday is the 4BBB first round of the 4B championships.

Sounds complicated, doesn’t it?

Bob Ramsay and Paul Massurit are providing the trophies and Chris Goodie, the raffle.

Not being there, as we were at home in a warm environment, there were not a lot of stories.

However despite the freezing cold weather as only Orange can turn on, Garry Clarke was playing in a cotton shirt and pants and in the buggy!

Every one else had on lots of clothes and probably their long johns as well.

Walking at least keeps you warm but Garry does like to ride around.

There had been a lot of changes on the course due to the new hospital being built.

The first hole was under repair and shortened for the weekend.

It still played as a par 4 for the men and par 5 for the ladies.

The tee off was about 80 metres from the green and some of the ladies were having five, six and seven points off the hole!

Good work, Sue Smith, Dawn Phipps and Kim Sheridan.

Orange didn’t have any ladies so this gave us the winning edge.

The 18th hole was also shortened from a par 4 to a par 3.

Rob thought our old mate Bob Fuller was down there as there were tees with a piece of string tied to them the way Bob always used to do.

I’m not sure why he did that but I suppose they were easier to find.

Some of the men players chickened out on going to Orange.

Paul and Bo? Paul felt he wouldn’t get mentioned this week but I had to make some comment.

Lastly thank you to all the Leaguies for the flowers.

I hope this foot heals soon.
