Magpies heading for the top

4/07/2008 9:29:00 AM
Parkes Magpies have the chance to consolidate a top three spot tomorrow when they take on fellow semi-final contenders Bloomfield at the Stephen Davies Field.

Magpies are currently sitting in second spot on the Country Energy Premier League ladder but Bloomfield are among a pack of teams following hot on their heels.

‘Bloomfield are a tough team who have some quality players in their line-up,’ Magpies skipper Ben Hawken said.

‘We will have to be tight at the back to ensure they do not slip away form us and cause problems with their quick men.

‘As per usual, our game will centre around controlling possession and ensuring we let the ball do the work.

‘If we can do that, then scoring goals and winning games will take care of itself.’

Magpies have had problems against this year in getting a consistent team on the field but have a number of combinations that are starting to work well together.

Jack Elliott and Jacob Townsend are among the young players who are performing well this year along with Tim and Andew Wright and Troy Scott.

Meanwhile, Redbacks will be hoping for their second win of the season when they travel to Dubbo to take on the Crows.

It has been a frustrating year for Redbacks who have not been able to capitalise on a number of good starts.

Their only win this season came against the Crows way back in Round 2, so they are quietly confident of another victory.

‘We need to be full of desperation to win tomorrow’s game,’ Redbacks captain Kieren Deland said.

‘If we take Dubbo too lightly they will give us a rude shock and they are always tough to beat on their home turf.’

13/08/2008 | I heard the funniest thing this week: Google Earth exists because a little man ran around with a video camera filming the entire Earth including all the towns and every single house. I think he’s related to the little man inside our refrigerators that turns off the light.
